The name Coraline is inspired by the character of Coraline Jones from the horror-fantasy novella written by Neil Gaiman, one of the best contemporary English writers, that was published in 2002. Neil Gaiman was awarded for this work the Hugo Award for Best Novella in 2003, the Nebula Award for Best Novella in the same year, and still in 2002 also the Bram Stoker Award for the Best Work for Young Readers. In 2009 director, producer, and writer Henry Selick turned the novella into a great stop-motion animated movie that was an award success of its own, too (multiple Annie Awards and nominations for Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Animated Feature).
